Looking back this was a healthy dessert.<br /><h3 style="text-align: left;"><br />Healthy Alternative To Cheesecake</h3>Misti Dahi is creamy and velvety smooth. It is very similar to a cheesecake. I love to make MISTI DAHI as well as cheese cake without the eggs.<br /><br /></div><div>Usually Misti Dahi is made by boiling and reducing milk so it becomes little thick and creamy adding molasses made by dates or plain brown sugar to make it sweet. <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Mishti_Doi.jpg" target="_blank">Earthenware</a> or bakeware can be used to set the yogurt. However in the last years it as turned into a fad.<br /><br /><h3>Yogurt or Calorie Loaded Desert?</h3>The good news is that now we have a wide variety of yogurts available in super markets with live cultures (great for probiotics!). The bad news is that instead of making healthy wholesome food most yogurts are more like a calorie loaded dessert. To give yogurt a dessert flavor they add extra sugars' or artificial sweeteners! YUCK! </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://cheeseforum.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=543.0;attach=1782;image" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://cheeseforum.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=543.0;attach=1782;image" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />It's easy to be confused when shopping for yogurt in the dairy aisle, as there are hundreds of varieties.<br /><br />Some yogurts are made with cow’s milk, goat’s milk or soy milk. What’s the difference? Some are made with live cultures such as Lactobacillius, acidophilus and bifidus. The bacteria in these yogurts help the gut to heal faster after taking oral antibiotics. <br /><br />To make it easier on my VegFusion readers, I created a simply cheat sheet to make your yogurt shopping experience super easy :)<br /><br /><h3>Simple Healthy Yogurt Cheat Sheet</h3></div><div><br /><span style="color: #5f655d; line-height: 14px;">1. Get plain yogurt without added sugar, corn syrup or flavor.</span><br /><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding-top: 2px;">2. Add your own fruit.<br /><br />3. Avoid the artificial sweeteners like aspartame etc.<br /><br />4. Find a locally produced yogurt without gum, fillers, thickeners, or stabilizers such as carrageen, modified food starch Example: Seven Star Yogurt from whole food.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding-top: 2px;">5. Know what to look for on the labels. Specifically, you are interested in yogurts that contain the live cultures Lactobacillus, Acidophilus and bifidus. There may be two or three other types of live cultures, but these are the most common and easiest to assimilate for most people.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding-top: 2px;">6. Remember that even nonfat, organic, live culture yogurt has natural sugar. A one-cup serving of this kind of yogurt provides live cultures, 14 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat and 10 grams of sugar. That is not added sugar, but simply sugar from the milk from which it it is made. This is to say all things in moderation.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.thegrocerygirls.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/T/1TVAL.jpg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; Thankfully, it is very fun and easy to make.<br /><br /><b>Prep time: 10 minutes</b><br /><b>Cook time :20 minutes</b><br /><br /><b><u>Ingredients:</u></b><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKjEhclD4GI/UZ_g2QQXmWI/AAAAAAAABA0/Hoo_QQzgo80/s1600/Burfi++dry+milk+.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKjEhclD4GI/UZ_g2QQXmWI/AAAAAAAABA0/Hoo_QQzgo80/s320/Burfi++dry+milk+.JPG" width="320" /></a>-2 cans (15 oz. each) of Ricotta cheese<br />-One 14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk<br />-One 15 oz. can of instant non-fat milk powder<br />-2 tbsp of unsalted butter or ghee<br />-Handful of silvered pistachios<br />-2 tsp Cardamom powder<br /><br /><br /><b><u>Preparations:</u></b><br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tu3EoZlPD_A/UZ_g20j6TFI/AAAAAAAABBA/8YV72sbVO-I/s1600/making+burfi.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tu3EoZlPD_A/UZ_g20j6TFI/AAAAAAAABBA/8YV72sbVO-I/s320/making+burfi.JPG" width="320" /></a>1.In a Heavy sauce pan on medium heat, add 1 tbsp of butter or ghee. Add all the ricotta cheese and stir so it does not stick at the bottom. After 10 minutes, the water should mostly be evaporated off.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5UuTyiGfkBE/UZ_g2vwVk3I/AAAAAAAABA8/_omNx9_hhcs/s1600/ready+burfi.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5UuTyiGfkBE/UZ_g2vwVk3I/AAAAAAAABA8/_omNx9_hhcs/s320/ready+burfi.JPG" width="320" /></a><br /><br /><br />2. Add sweetened condensed milk to the cheese and stir again for 10 minutes. Be careful not to burn yourself here. The water in the ricotta cheese will start to bubble.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6k_zCbsqYRo/UZ_g88f8txI/AAAAAAAABBM/6WY7pJsYtk0/s1600/spreading+burfi.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6k_zCbsqYRo/UZ_g88f8txI/AAAAAAAABBM/6WY7pJsYtk0/s320/spreading+burfi.JPG" width="320" /></a><br /><br />3. Now you should start to see the milk get solid and lumpy.<br />The best way to check on the plate is to take out 1 tsp of mix and try to form a ball. If you can do this, that means it is done.<br />Now you can add carnation powder to the milk cake and stir continuously. Within a minute or two turn off the stove and mix well so it is uniform.<br /><br />4. Grease a 6x9 inch pan with unsalted butter or ghee and pour the milk cake. Garnish with pistachios and cardamom powder. Let it cool down for 2 hours. Cut into desired lengths and serve.<br /><br />*This dessert stays good for 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator.<br /><br /><br /><b><u>Tips:</u></b><br /><br />-2 can 3/4 measure full sugar can be substituted for sweetened milk<br /><br />-Vanilla extract and different nuts (almond or pistachio powder for example) can be used to get a different flavor. I recommend trying out fresh Ricotta cheese from the deli (not canned Ricotta).<br /><br />-This recipe can be done in the microwave also:<br />Use a glass container and cover it with Saran wrap and microwave for 5 minutes. Stir and again microwave for 5 minutes then add sugar or condensed milk and microwave for 5 more minutes. Add carnation powder and microwave for 3-4 minutes till it is done.</div>Jayshree Shahhttps://plus.google.com/101650077175533896144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4597417758135127379.post-10091868634340421592013-05-27T08:14:00.000-07:002013-05-27T08:14:00.137-07:00Three Great Recipes That Use Avocado<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GnbxeK7Bzyg/UUsjanUD-_I/AAAAAAAAATY/wxYSzrkU1Mo/s1600/avocado.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GnbxeK7Bzyg/UUsjanUD-_I/AAAAAAAAATY/wxYSzrkU1Mo/s320/avocado.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="MsoNormal">This week we’re going to take a look at three great recipes that use avocado. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://www.thevegfusion.com/2009/05/seven-layer-mexican-dip.html">Seven Layer Mexican Dip</a><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://www.thevegfusion.com/2013/03/low-calorie-sandwhich.html">Low Calorie sandwich</a><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://www.thevegfusion.com/2009/05/salsa-mexican.html">Quesadillas with Homemade Salsa & Guacamole</a><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Egk-BNOGUE/UUsjnpRsBwI/AAAAAAAAATg/B6u5YyBsfIY/s1600/avocado+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Egk-BNOGUE/UUsjnpRsBwI/AAAAAAAAATg/B6u5YyBsfIY/s320/avocado+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"></div><div class="MsoNormal">Avocados have a rich flavor that works well in a wide variety of recipes. In fact, a two tablespoon serving of sour cream contains less fat than just one tablespoon of mayonnaise. Sour cream is commonly used to add a little extra flavor to various recipe. It actually has a lower fat content than a lot of other condiments, so you may want to give it a try. <o:p></o:p></div><br />Mike Kurzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01418273300682753482noreply@blogger.com0
