Three Great Recipes That Use Rice



This week we’re going to take a look at three great recipes that use rice.






Rice has a unique, mild flavor that works well in both sweet and savory recipes.  Rice also has some great health benefits. For starters, rice is packed with carbohydrates, making it a great source of energy. Rice is also exceptionally low in sodium making it an ideal food for people suffering from high blood pressure. Rice has even been linked to cancer prevention. So give these great recipes a try and see the benefits of rice for yourself.

Gujarati Thali

The above picture was taken at a wedding in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a example of traditional Gujarati meal. Thali means collection of various dishes including sweet and sour to taste. Typically Gujarati Thali is served in a big round stainless steel plate with several small bowls for different dishes as shown in the picture to the left hand side.

The above picture of Thali consists of (clockwise):
Shirkhand: Made of yogurt, sugar, and safforn
Undhiyu: medley of all the vegetables such as beans, potato, egg plant and others
Potato and Corn Sabzi
Ameri Khaman: popular snack made of chick pea flour and sev
Cucumber and Pineapple kachumber: healthy green salad
Fired papad: made of  lentils flour and spices
 Farsi Puri: Made of whole wheat flour and may be substituted with soft puffed puri.
Patra: Made of colocasia esculanta leaves, chickpea flour, spices.
Pickle
 Pulav with vegetables.
 Kadhi(outside of the plate).

Further, Gujaratis' serve desert as an appetizer instead of being served in the last. In the end freshly churned buttermilk is served known as Chaas.

Rice Krispies Treats @ home


Me and my kids enjoy eating rice krispies. I was wondering the other day to make rice krispies at home without using marshmallows. Here is the fun and easy recipe for the rice krispies at home using available ingredients.




Cooking level: Very easy
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

7 cups of rice krispies

2 cups of oats

few Reese pieces

8 oz creamy almond butter

1/2 cup of dried cranberries

1/2 cup of dark raisins

2 cups of brown sugar

1 1/2 cup of shredded coconut

2 cups of roasted peanuts/ almonds

4 tbsp butter

16 oz fluid light corn syrup with real vanilla or you may use agave nectar for corn syrup

Preparation

1. In a sauce pan and low heat  , add butter, creamy almond butter.

2. Add, corn syrup and brown sugar mix well.

3. When it liquefies, add the other ingredients to the mixture.

4. Add rice krispies and  mix real well.

5. In a 9 x 12 baking pan, spray with cooking oil and put all the mixture in the pan with spatula to flatten it    and let it cool down for 30- 45 minutes

6. Now you may cut into desired pieces
